Religion is at the core of everything Jamaica. Here this century old church has been a part of the community for at least a century, but this antiqued Anglican church in Port Maria, St. Mary is certainly not the only thing to see in this once vibrant town. Noel Coward, a British playwright spend many years in this town prior to his death in 1973. His home sits on top a hill over looking Cabrita, a small island. Today is home is a living museum of the time he spend living in Port Maria. Firefly, as his home is referred to is decorated in the manner Coward would have enjoyed. At the highs of its popularity, this town was once a striving metropolitan center in the parish of St. Mary. It was the chief centre of export for the town's main crop of banana. The community relies heavy on fishing. It was a favorite past time and a great source of income.
Time might have tarnished the town's ability to produce it's staple products but nevertheless it still manages to retain it's small town charm and it's sense of community. photo by bhell13

Westmoreland, the 8th largest parish in Jamaica is perhaps best know for it's rivers. The Cabaritta River, one of the parishes long rivers can accomodate some of the largest riverboats. Other rivers in the parish include New Savanna, Morgan's, Gut, Smithfield, Bowens, Bluefields, Robins, Roaring and the Negril River.
